Raiders Survive Elimination, Defeat Arizona Western 7-4

OXFORD, Ala. — After suffering a tough loss to Paris earlier in the day, Northwest Florida State Softball responded in a big way Thursday night, defeating Arizona Western 7-4 to keep its season alive at the NJCAA Softball World Series.

Following multiple weather delays, schedule adjustments, and even a field change, the Raiders showed resilience in an elimination game they had to win to continue their postseason run.

Jaci Gari led the way offensively, turning in a dominant 4-for-4 performance that included a double, a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. AJ Vineski also delivered in a key moment, coming through with a two-run single late in the game to provide valuable insurance runs for the Raiders.

Northwest Florida struck first in the second inning when Haley Hughes lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Gari. Moments later, the Raiders added another run after Julie Stevens scored on an Arizona Western error.

The Matadors answered with a run in the second before tying the game in the fourth on an RBI double down the left-field line.

The Raiders reclaimed control in the fifth inning behind Gari's three-run homer to center field, extending the lead to 5-2. Arizona Western trimmed the deficit to two with an RBI single later in the inning, but Northwest Florida responded again in the seventh when Vineski drove in two runs with a clutch single up the middle.

Arizona Western added one final run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Raiders shut the door to secure the victory.

Northwest Florida utilized nearly its entire pitching staff in the win. Mallory Baker started the game, allowing one run over 1.2 innings. Savannah Carter provided the bulk of the work in relief, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing just one run on six hits. Marlee Parsons entered in the seventh before Isabelle Warrick recorded the final three outs to earn the save and preserve the Raiders' season.

The Raiders will return to action Friday at 11:15 a.m. against Odessa in another elimination game at Choccolocco Park, weather permitting. The winner of that game will play again at 1:30 against the loser of game 32 between Paris and Northeast Alabama.
