Northwest Florida Takes Two from Pensacola Wednesday
PENSACOLA, Fla. — Northwest Florida softball continued its dominant run on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to 13 games with a doubleheader sweep of Pensacola, 6–2 and 4–2.
The Raiders used a balanced effort across both games, combining timely hitting with strong performances in the circle. Karson McGowan and Anna Grace Griggs led the offense in game one with two hits apiece, while Savannah Carter and Marlee Parsons combined to limit the Pirates to just two runs on eight hits.
In game two, Bre Hughes powered the Raiders, reaching base in all four plate appearances with two hits, two walks, and a pair of RBIs, including a home run. Mallory Baker delivered another steady outing in the circle, with Parsons closing the door late to secure the save.
Game One: Northwest Florida 6, Pensacola 2
Northwest Florida opened the scoring in the third inning when Bre Hughes drove in a run on a groundout.
Pensacola answered in the fourth to tie the game, but the Raiders quickly regained control in the fifth. Anna Grace Griggs delivered an RBI double, and Julie Stevens followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring in another run.
After the Pirates pulled within one in the bottom of the fifth, Stevens provided insurance with a solo home run in the seventh to help seal the 6–2 victory.
Savannah Carter earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits over four innings while striking out four. Marlee Parsons was dominant in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits.
McGowan and Griggs each recorded two hits, while Stevens drove in a team-high two RBIs. The Raiders were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping four bases, and turned a key double play defensively.
Game Two: Northwest Florida 4, Pensacola 2
The Raiders struck early in game two, taking a first-inning lead on an RBI single from Savannah Carter.
Bre Hughes extended the advantage with a solo home run in the third, and McGowan added another run with an RBI single in the fifth. Hughes later delivered again in the seventh with an RBI double, providing a crucial insurance run.
Mallory Baker earned the win with a strong outing, allowing two runs on six hits over 6.1 innings while striking out three. Parsons entered in the seventh and recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.
Hughes led the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, driving in two runs and reaching base four times. Carter also added two hits as the Raiders once again played clean defense, finishing the game without an error.
With the sweep, Northwest Florida continues to build momentum heading deeper into conference play, riding a 13-game winning streak fueled by consistent pitching, disciplined at-bats, and solid defense.
