Raiders Silence Gulf Coast Bats, Extend Winning Streak to Nine
NICEVILLE, Fla. — Northwest Florida softball continued its dominant run on Saturday, sweeping No. 24 Gulf Coast to extend its winning streak to nine games after dropping the first meeting between the two teams last month.
The Raiders secured a dramatic 4–3 walk-off win in game one before rolling to a 9–0 shutout victory in game two. Pitching once again set the tone, as Savannah Carter and Mallory Baker delivered in the circle and at the plate. The duo combined to allow just three runs while striking out nine and contributing offensively, going 4-for-10 with three RBIs.
As a staff, Northwest Florida limited Gulf Coast to just nine hits across the doubleheader, including only one extra-base hit.
Game One: Northwest Florida 4, Gulf Coast 3
Game one came down to the final at-bat, as the Raiders walked off the Commodores for a 4–3 victory.
With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Savannah Carter delivered the game-winning hit, lining a single to left field to score Jena LeCamus from third.
Karson McGowan led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, including a solo home run in the fifth inning that briefly gave the Raiders the lead. Bre Hughes opened the scoring earlier in the game with a solo shot in the first.
Gulf Coast answered throughout, tying the game in the fifth and again in the sixth with a solo home run. But Northwest Florida loaded the bases in the seventh, setting the stage for Carter's walk-off heroics.
Carter also shined in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) and striking out eight.
Game Two: Northwest Florida 9, Gulf Coast 0
The Raiders left no doubt in game two, erupting offensively in a 9–0 run-rule win.
Julie Stevens powered the lineup, driving in four runs on two hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning. Northwest Florida broke the game open with a five-run third inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Mallory Baker and Stevens, along with a two-run home run from Hailey Henry.
The Raiders continued to add on, extending the lead and cruising to the shutout victory.
Mallory Baker was sharp in the circle, allowing just three hits over four scoreless innings. Marlee Parsons added a clean inning of relief to complete the shutout.
Stevens and Anna Grace Griggs each recorded two hits, while the Raiders remained aggressive on the bases with three stolen bases. Defensively, Northwest Florida was flawless, not committing an error.
With the sweep, the Raiders continue to build momentum in conference play, fueled by dominant pitching, timely hitting, and clean defense.
