Offense Erupts as Raiders Sweep Lansing on Friday
NICEVILLE, Fla. — Northwest Florida State's offense came alive Friday as the Raiders swept Lansing Community College in a doubleheader, rallying for a 6-5 walk-off win in game one before cruising to a 20-3 victory in the nightcap.
Game One: NWF 6, Lansing 5
The Raiders needed late-game heroics to secure the opener, defeating Lansing 6-5 on a walk-off home run from Karson McGowan in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With the game tied at five, McGowan launched a solo shot to left field to seal the victory.
McGowan had a standout performance at the plate, collecting three hits in four at-bats. She singled in both the first and third innings before delivering the game-winning home run in the seventh.
Northwest Florida opened the scoring in the first inning when McGowan singled to bring in a run. The Raiders extended their lead in the fifth as Falyn Beebe blasted a two-run home run to center field, making it 3-0.
Lansing responded in the sixth inning with a five-run rally on five hits, including a three-run homer, to take a 5-3 lead.
The Raiders answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning when Jaci Gary homered to center field to tie the game at five and set the stage for McGowan's walk-off heroics in the seventh.
Savannah Carter earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out 10 without issuing a walk. Isaballe Warrick also appeared in relief.
Northwest Florida totaled 12 hits in the game. McGowan and Anna Grace Griggs each recorded three hits, while Gary, McGowan, and Beebe drove in two runs apiece. The Raiders also stole three bases and played error-free defense, with Nyla Tretau leading the team with 10 chances in the field.
Game Two: NWF 20, Lansing 3
The Raiders' offense exploded in game two, racking up 20 runs on 20 hits to complete the sweep.
Julie Stevens led the charge with five RBIs on three hits. She doubled in the first and second innings before launching a three-run home run to center field in the third.
Northwest Florida jumped ahead early in the first inning as McGowan doubled down the right-field line, AJ Vineski singled to center, and Stevens doubled to left, each driving in a run.
The Raiders added five more runs in the second inning. Haley Hughes drove in runs on a fielder's choice, while Vineski and Stevens each delivered RBI doubles.
Northwest Florida continued to pour it on in the third inning with five more runs. McGowan hit a solo home run, Stevens followed with a three-run homer, and Mallory Baker added an RBI double.
The Raiders capped their scoring with a seven-run fourth inning. Haley Melancon doubled home a run, Vineski singled in another, Baker drove in two with a double, Hughes added a two-run triple, and Jena Lecamus finished the rally with an RBI single.
Marlee Parsons earned the win, allowing three hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings while striking out five and walking one.
Northwest Florida finished with 20 hits in the game. McGowan, Stevens, and Vineski each had three-hit performances, while Lecamus, Baker, Hailey Henry, and Griggs also recorded multiple hits. Hughes added two stolen bases in the victory.
