Northwest Florida Caps Off Perfect Conference Run with 8-0 Shutout Over No. 22 Chipola

NICEVILLE, Fla. — No. 4-ranked Northwest Florida State College completed an undefeated Panhandle Conference schedule on Saturday, closing the regular season with an emphatic 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings over No. 22 Chipola College. The win secured a 20-0 conference record for the Raiders and extended their overall winning streak to 38 games, finishing the regular season at a remarkable 54-2.

Hailey Henry was the standout performer at the plate, driving in four runs and delivering in clutch moments. The sophomore broke the game open in the third inning with a towering three-run home run to center field, giving the Raiders a commanding 5-0 lead. She later sealed the win in the sixth with a line-drive RBI single to left field, bringing home Sister Arnold and enforcing the run rule.

Northwest Florida wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Lulu Luedtke crushed a two-run homer to center, scoring Haley Hughes to put the Raiders up 2-0. Henry's home run in the third added three more runs, and a bases-loaded walk in the fourth plated another. Karson McGowen added to the tally in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Arnold from third. Henry's sixth-inning single capped off the scoring and ended the game.

In the circle, Cailyn Heyl continued her dominant season, tossing four shutout innings while allowing just one hit, striking out four, and walking one. The win marked her 28th of the year and lowered her ERA to a staggering 0.83. Bre Barnes entered in relief and shut the door, pitching two perfect innings with two strikeouts to secure the combined shutout.

Offensively, the Raiders racked up 12 hits. Hughes, Arnold, and Hayden Andrews each turned in multi-hit performances. The lineup showed patience and discipline at the plate, drawing six walks and forcing long at-bats. The Raiders also remained aggressive on the bases, stealing three bags, and were flawless defensively with zero errors.

Chipola managed just one hit in the contest — a single from Anyela Ruiz — and struggled to contain Northwest Florida's offense. Starting pitcher Adrianna Carter took the loss, allowing seven hits and five runs in 2.2 innings. The Lady Indians did turn a double play and also played error-free defense, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the red-hot Raiders.

With the regular season now complete, Northwest Florida turns its attention to the postseason. The Raiders will head to Clearwater, Florida, for the FCSAA State Tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Complex beginning May 7. While official seeding is yet to be released, the Raiders are expected to enter as a top-three seed after holding a top-three spot in the state rankings all season long.
