Raiders Take Weekend Series Against Blinn and Northwest Shoals with Two More Wins Saturday
GAME ONE
Northwest Florida State dominated Blinn Bucs with an 8-0 shutout victory on Saturday.
The Raiders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Hailey Henry launched a two-run homer to center field in the first inning. They added to their lead in the second, capitalizing on a walk by Sister Arnold and clutch singles from Karson McGowan and Bre Hughes.
Henry continued to drive in runs, grounding out in the third to extend the lead to 7-0.
Cailyn Heyl was lights out in the circle, allowing just one hit and no runs over 4.2 innings, striking out three without issuing a walk. Blinn's Brynn Gallamore took the loss, surrendering nine hits and eight runs (seven earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking five.
Hughes led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while McGowan had a perfect day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3. Falyn Beebe also added two hits in two at-bats. Anna Grace Griggs showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks as the Raiders totaled five free passes. The team was aggressive on the base paths, swiping five stolen bases, with Griggs collecting two.
GAME TWO
Raiders' Explosive Third Inning Fuels Shutout Win Over Northwest Shoals
A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as Northwest Florida State powered past Northwest Shoals with a 7-0 victory on Saturday.
The Raiders got on the board early when Hailey Henry crushed a solo homer to center field in the first inning. Lulu Luedtke followed with a solo shot of her own in the second to push the lead further.
Northwest Florida State broke the game open in the third, stringing together key hits. Falyn Beebe and Haley Hughes delivered RBI singles before Sara Watson cleared the bases with a three-run double, giving the Raiders a commanding lead.
Mallory Baker was dominant on the mound, throwing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit, striking out three, and walking none. Bre Barnes came in for two innings of flawless relief, giving up no hits and striking out one. Northwest Shoals' J. Moore took the loss, surrendering eight hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out five and walking four.
Watson led the offense with three RBIs, finishing 1-for-3. Luedtke stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Beebe showcased patience with two walks. Defensively, the Raiders were solid, turning a crucial double play.
For Northwest Shoals, A. Teague tallied the team's only hit. Despite the loss, their defense was sharp, pulling off a rare triple play and committing no errors, with M. Griffith leading the effort with five defensive plays.
UP NEXT
The Raiders return home next week for a busy slate of six games. They'll open with back-to-back doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday against Lurleen B. Wallace and Wallace-Dothan. After a short break, they'll be back in action on Saturday for another doubleheader against Snead State.
