Raiders Deliver Wire-to-Wire Rout in Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Northwest Florida State men's basketball left little doubt Wednesday night, turning in a complete, wire-to-wire performance to roll past Pensacola 75–46 and improve to 4–2 in Panhandle Conference play.

The Raiders set the tone early, racing out to a 14–2 lead in the opening six minutes. Northwest Florida's defense smothered the Pirates from the opening tip, holding Pensacola to just 6-for-31 shooting (19.4 percent) in the first half. By the break, the Raiders had built a commanding 35–18 advantage.

Damarion Vann-Kelly paced the offense in the opening half with 11 points, while Justin Burns was already making his presence felt on the glass, hauling in 13 rebounds before halftime as Northwest Florida controlled possession throughout the opening 20 minutes.

The momentum carried seamlessly into the second half. The Raiders opened on another run, forcing a quick Pensacola timeout, but the stoppage did little to slow Northwest Florida. The Raiders continued to dominate on both ends of the floor, eventually emptying the bench as they cruised to the 29-point victory.

Vann-Kelly finished with a game-high 23 points, marking the fourth time this season he has topped the 20-point mark and his second 23-point outing in conference play. The sophomore scored efficiently from all areas of the floor, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and knocking down three triples.

Burns turned in one of the most impressive performances of the night, posting a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with 13 points for a double-double. His work on the glass included nine offensive rebounds and eight on the defensive end, fueling extra possessions and widening the gap throughout the game.

Johnny Pierce was also strong against his former team, pulling down nine rebounds, while Braylon Roman and Jonas Nichols each chipped in nine points. Roman added four rebounds, and Nichols dished out three assists in the balanced effort.

Northwest Florida shot 48.8 percent from the field on 62 attempts and went 6-for-15 from beyond the arc (40.0 percent). Defensively, the Raiders limited Pensacola to 29.3 percent shooting and committed just eight personal fouls, sending the Pirates to the free-throw line only six times. Northwest Florida finished with a plus-25 rebounding advantage, its largest margin of the season.

The win moves the Raiders into a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Tallahassee and Gulf Coast. Northwest Florida now turns its attention to Saturday's road matchup at No. 18 Chipola. A win in Marianna would further solidify the Raiders' postseason position and keep them firmly in the hunt for a conference championship as the regular season winds down.
