Quigley Powers Raiders Past Gulf Coast with Two Homers in 12–8 Win
NICEVILLE, Fla. — Anthony Quigley put on a show Wednesday, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs to lead Northwest Florida to a 12–8 win over Gulf Coast.
In a game where both offenses stayed hot, the Raiders racked up 14 hits while the Commodores finished with nine in a back-and-forth contest.
Gulf Coast jumped out early with a pair of solo home runs in the first inning to take a quick 2–0 lead. Northwest Florida answered in the second when Nathan Nance launched a two-run homer to even things up.
The Raiders took control in the third. After Orlando Fernandez worked his way into scoring position, Quigley delivered a two-run shot to left to give Northwest Florida a 4–2 advantage.
Northwest Florida continued to add on in the fifth, pushing across a run on a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 5–2.
Gulf Coast chipped away in the sixth with a triple and a groundout to cut the deficit to one, but the Raiders responded immediately. A bases-loaded walk, a hit-by-pitch, and an RBI single from Hunter Tarchalski helped Northwest Florida stretch the lead to 8–4.
The Commodores stayed within striking distance with two runs in the seventh, making it 8–6 heading into the late innings.
That's when Quigley delivered the knockout blow.
The sophomore slugger crushed his second home run of the night in the eighth to spark a four-run inning. Xavier Rivera followed with a solo shot, and Nance added an RBI double as the Raiders extended the lead to 12–6.
Gulf Coast added a two-run homer in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
On the mound, Presley Woodson earned the win for Northwest Florida, allowing four runs over six innings while striking out four. Anthony St. Vincent and Mikhai Grant combined to finish the game in relief.
Tarchalski led the Raiders at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4, while Nance and Angel Santiago each added multiple hits. Northwest Florida also stayed aggressive on the base paths, swiping seven bases and playing clean defense without committing an error.
