NICEVILLE, Fla. – With the regular season winding down, No. 7 Northwest Florida women's basketball earned an important win, 74-69, over No. 4 Gulf Coast Saturday in Raider Arena.
Entering the weekend, Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast, and Chipola were tied atop the Panhandle Conference standings. With the win, the Raiders can jump both schools with a win in Marianna on Wednesday.
Northwest Florida (21-5, 6-3 PC) led by as many as 16 in the game and fought off a pesky Commodores squad late.
Chanaya Pinto scored 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds. Rayven Peeples and Reneasha Payton finished with 19 points each, while Peeples completed the double-double with 12 rebounds.
The Raiders outrebounded Gulf Coast 43-31 and scored 32 points in the paint. NWF shot 42.3 percent as a team and 53.8 percent in the third quarter, which the team won 22-13.
Northwest Florida travels to take on Chipola in Marianna Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
