NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State women's basketball will start the year as the fifth-ranked team in the nation as the National Junior College Athletics Association released its top-25 poll on Monday.
The Raiders are coming off a 26-6 campaign, Panhandle Conference title and a second straight NJCAA National Tournament Elite Eight appearance. NWF returns one letterwinner from a season ago but have restocked the talent pool with a mix of transfers and freshman. The team is one of three Panhandle Conference squads in the poll. Last season, the Raiders spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1.
"We're honored to be one of the best teams in the state of Florida," NWF head coach Bart Walker said. "It's still early and we've got a new team, but if we stay healthy and continue to grow, we should be right there in the mix at the end of the year."
Northwest Florida State opens its season on Nov. 2 at home against Wabash Valley. Tip is set for noon.
