Fischetti Walk-Off Leads Raiders Past East Georgia

CLEARWATER, Fla. – With two outs in the seventh inning, Gabrielle Fischetti laced a single into right field to drive home Brookelyn Sweeney lifting Northwest Florida softball to a 6-5 win over East Georgia Saturday in the JUCO Kickoff Showcase.

Trailing 5-4 entering the frame, the Raiders (2-1) tied the game when Abbey Higginbotham reached on an error allowing Makiya Giles to cross the plate.

NWF dug out of a 5-1 hole starting with an Abby Sulte sacrifice fly in the fourth. An inning later, Higginbotham singled home Ashley Autuori before Sweeney knocked in BreAnna Corkern to close the deficit to one run.

Higginbotham finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Sweeney collected a hit and reached base twice on walks.

Ivey Hill got the start in the circle and tossed 3.2 innings before Lauren Rase entered and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Northwest Florida returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader in Brewton, Ala., against Coastal Alabama – East. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
