Lady Raiders split double-header against Gulf Coast

GAME 1 RECAP:

Scorekeepers were kept busy today during a high-scoring contest between Northwest Florida State College and Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity where Northwest Florida State College prevailed 13-6.

In the second inning, Northwest Florida State College got their offense started when Marcie Bewley singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the third inning. Chandler Sparkman drove in one when she doubled.

After Northwest Florida State College scored two runs in the top of the sixth, Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity answered with two of their own. Northwest Florida State College scored when Venice Sanders homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity then answered when Amanda Dermody singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Northwest Florida State College pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning.

Northwest Florida State College tallied five runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by Northwest Florida State College was led by Kayla Harris and Mallory Druhan, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity scored three runs in the third inning. Hayden Lindsay, Kaylee Raines, and Sparkman all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Amber Byrd led things off on the rubber for Northwest Florida State College . She lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out six.

Amie Hutchison toed the rubber for Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity. She surrendered five runs on six hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven. Kristina Manthei threw two and two-thirds innings in relief.

Northwest Florida State College totaled 15 hits. Harris, Maggie Wheless, Summer Frye, Sanders, Druhan, and Bewley all managed multiple hits for Northwest Florida State College . Wheless and Harris each collected three hits to lead Northwest Florida State College .

Raines went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity in hits.
