NWF men nab NABC junior college team of the week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Utah, Lake Superior State University, Wittenberg University, Oklahoma City University and Northwest Florida State College have been named the NABC Teams of the Week for games played Feb. 4-10.


Junior College - Northwest Florida State College 

Head Coach: Steve Demeo 

Undefeated in the Panhandle Conference, Northwest Florida State clinched its fifth straight conference championship with a win over Pensacola last Saturday, 103-84. Earlier in the week, the Raiders clipped 18th-ranked Tallahassee in convincing fashion, 94-69. The win was their 7th against ranked opponents in 2018-19. 


NCAA Division I - Utah

Head Coach: Larry Krystkowiak 

Utah improved to 5-1 on the road in Pac-12 play this season with a road sweep of the LA schools, moving the Utes into a tie for second place in the league. Utah (13-10, 7-4) led USC by as much as 23 points en route to a 77-70 win, then erased a 22-point deficit for a 93-92 victory at UCLA on Parker Van Dyke's winning three-pointer at the buzzer.


NCAA Division II - Lake Superior State

Head Coach: Steve Hettinga 

Locked in a tight race in the North Division of the Great Lakes Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Lake Superior State defeated Wayne State, 90-66, before upsetting 15th-ranked Ashland, 77-66.  The win extended the Lakers' win streak to three games with two big home victories. Lake Superior hit on 53.7 percent from the field against WSU and 50.8 percent against Ashland (19-4). The Lakers (13-8) were 21-of-52 from behind the arc for the week and for the second time this season held back-to-back opponents to less than 70 points.


NCAA Division III - Wittenberg University

Head Coach: Matt Croci 

Wittenberg posted a pair of wins this week to improve to 12-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 18-5 overall.  The Tigers defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 91-58, and then downed archrival and ninth-ranked Wooster, 84-74, on the road. The Tigers took a 13-point lead at halftime and then held off a late charge from the Scots, who narrowed the margin to single-digits in the final minute of play. The loss ended a 12-game win streak for Wooster (19-4, 14-2).


NAIA - Oklahoma City University

Head Coach: Vinay Patel 

Oklahoma City extended its win streak to six games with three victories in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  The Stars broke the century mark with a 104-86 win over Southwestern Christian and then edged Southwestern Assemblies of God (RV), 71-65. Oklahoma City (17-7, 12-6) closed out the week with a win over Texas Wesleyan, 90-55, and is tied for second place in the SAC.
