NICEVILLE, Fla. – Five Raiders were named to Perfect Game's Top 100 Incoming JUCO Freshmen list, the publication released this week.
Thomas Wilhite (No. 5), Tyler Montoya (No. 20), Cal Smith (No. 25), Blake Buckle (No. 47), and Garrett Danford (No. 65) were all included on the list of incoming junior college freshmen from across the country. In total, 15 players from the five Panhandle Conference institutions were named, with Wilhite being the lone conference player to land in the top five.
In addition to his place on the Top 100 Incoming Freshmen list, Wilhite, a native of West Monroe, Louisiana, was ranked as the No. 5 prospect from The Pelican State and No. 126 nationally last year. Touching 94 with his fastball, the right-hander turned heads at West Ouachita High School and looks to anchor the Raiders rotation in 2020.
A southpaw from Las Vegas, Montoya was the top left-handed pitching prospect in the state of Nevada and No. 46 nationally according to Perfect Game. Peachtree City product Calin Smith hit .378 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 25 RBIs from the left side for Trinity Christian (Ga.).
Buckle hails from Milton, Ontario, Canada and was ranked the 69th overall catching prospect by the service. Danford comes to NWF from Grand Ridge, Fla., where he was named to the 2018 Sunshine Southeast Showcase Top Prospect List and a utility player.
