NWF State Brings Home JUCO World Series Title

Northwest Florida State's baseball team ended the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., the way it started it a week ago -- dominant.

The Raiders dominated McLennan, the only team that beat them, in a 15-1 route in the do-or-die championship of the double-elimination bracket.

It's Northwest Florida State's first national championship and the 19th win in the Raiders' last 22 games. Northwest Florida State (42-13) grabbed control with a six-run fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead against McLennan, the Texas school which defeated Northwest Florida State 5-1 in a game that started Thursday and finished Friday due to rain postponement.
Dakota Dean, a Crestview native and former Crestview High standout, hit a three-run home run in the big inning and a two-run homer in the sixth inning. He finished with six RBI while Tanner Halstead and Aaron Palmer each drove in a pair of runs.
Palmer and Dean each had four hits while Mack Hathcock, Shawn Feltner and Jarren Pinkney each had two. Corderias Dorsey pitched the whole game, lasting 127 pitches, and allowed just seven hits while striking out 12.

The Raiders have won 12 of their last 13 games and dominated the early part of the tournament with three blowout wins. After a 10-7 win against Walters State, Northwest Florida State lost to McLennan but advanced to the championship round due to each remaining team having one loss and the Raiders playing more games than the other two remaining teams.
