Wes Johnson is in his first year as Athletics Communications Coordinator at Northwest Florida State College.
He serves as the primary media contact for men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, and softball.
Prior to arriving in Niceville, Johnson spent three years as the Director of Athletics Communications at Troy University, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, where he served as the primary contact for soccer, women's basketball and women's tennis as well as a secondary contact for football.
Johnson spent one academic year (2015-16) at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. There, he worked with the volleyball, baseball, equestrian and beach volleyball teams, which compete in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Prior to joining the staff at Troy as Media Relations Assistant from 2013-15, Johnson served as sports editor for The (Troy) Messenger, a daily community newspaper covering Troy Athletics and local high school sports.
Preceding his time in the print media industry, Johnson spent four years at Dixie Academy in Louisville, Ala. He served as a teacher and coach and as head coach for the Rebels’ baseball program led the squad to three consecutive playoff appearances – the longest streak in school history. He also played one season of collegiate baseball at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Ala.
A graduate of Troy University, Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in sport and fitness management with a minor in recreation. He graduated high school from Pike Liberal Arts School. Johnson currently lives in Panama City Beach with his fiancée , Lydia, and their three cats, Dobby, Luna, and Binx.
